Joanne Ricci

Everything in my life always led me to the arts. I was fortunate to grow up in a large family of artists, and creative endeavors were always encouraged. I graduated as an Arts Education major from Montclair State College, where my first pottery experiences were nothing short of disastrous.

After careers in education and hospitality, I became reacquainted with pottery through a friend, and to my amazement and delight, this time it worked! Several classes, an unexpected move, and a career change later, and I now have a wonderful river-front studio where I can happily create my wares.

I love finding beauty in unexpected and overlooked places and gather inspiration primarily from the streets and architecture of New York City. My designs derive from the urban photos I’ve taken which are translated into silkscreens. The images are then printed onto my pottery. Each piece is created individually, and none are exactly alike- I don’t have the temperament for assembly-line reproduction.
